When surfers meet, the greeting is "hang loose." This means "always stay relaxed." To do this, one makes the shaka sign with one hand: the thumb and little finger are extended, and the other three fingers are bent like a fist. Then, shake the hand slightly. This is the perfect greeting gesture for Hawaiians and surfers alike.
