SNAFU – the patch

SNAFU is an acronym for "Situation Normal, All Fucked Up." It's a military slang term used to describe a chaotic or disorganized situation in which everything is going wrong, but which is nevertheless considered normal.

In German it is often translated as “situation normal, everything is screwed up”, which has the same sarcastic connotation.

The term originated in US military jargon of the 1940s and has since spread into everyday language. There's also a character called " Private Snafu ," a cartoon soldier known for his clumsiness and the chaotic situations it creates.
