The influence of the term cannot be underestimated: "Banana republic" is a derogatory term for states where corruption and bribery are prevalent. The word originates from small countries in tropical America that thrive on banana exports. The term was first used in a 1907 novella by O. Henry in reference to Honduras; strangely enough, it has stuck around the world to this day.
We love bananas! That's why we're giving you the chance to become citizens yourself: the Banana Republic flag patch is available in banana yellow and olive for the Banana Republic combat forces.
